Music is the Voice of the Soul

As a choir, we know this… SING to make your soul happy!

Melodic Choir are a friendly group of people who love to sing together- and have fun in the process! Meanwhile, we always aim to ascertain the highest standard possible for all performances.

In 2018, our highlight was to sing with the renowned ‘Tenors Unlimited’ at Medina Theatre, where we were invited to support them from a number of other choirs.

We are proud that our concerts have raised over £11,000 for Isle of Wight charities over the last four years. These include: Sight for Wight, M.S. Society, Daisy Chain IOW, and Ability Dogs 4 Young People to name a few. We have also supported the Wight Brainy Bunch and Friends of St Mary’s Hospital, which enabled them to buy a piece of new equipment.

Our repertoire includes Musicals, Motown and many other songs from varying genres. In November 2019 our Mamma Mia themed concert raised £1,900 for the island brain tumour charity “The Wight Brainy Bunch”.

If you like to sing, then why not come and join us? Give it a try! New members are genuinely always welcome and no experience is necessary.

We meet at the Whippingham Community Hall in East Cowes on Thursdays: 6.45pm-8.45pm.

We also have enjoyable social evenings (usually every 5/6 weeks), which is an ideal opportunity to get to know your fellow choir members and make new friends.

We are now open to new members!

“I love being a member of Melodic because we are so much more than just a choir. We share a great friendship, support each through good times and bad, have lots of fun and on top of all that we get to raise money for Island charities.”

“Kay makes our Melodic choir sessions such good fun and her professional but relaxed style of coaching has helped me expand my vocal range and develop greater self-confidence when performing. Her wonderful choice of varied song material continues to surprise and challenge us and Kay allows us to play to our strengths but helps overcome any weaknesses or worries we have about our voices. It’s so lovely to be able to take part in all the concerts and fund-raising activities around the island. Choir members really do support and encourage each other. You couldn’t meet a nicer group of people. If you love to sing I would highly recommend giving Melodic a try.”

“Working with Kay has given me a confidence and inner belief I never knew I had. My voice has become so much stronger since starting lessons, and I’ve noticed a difference in my performing ability and range in only a few months. Becoming part of Melodic Choir has brought nothing but joy and a sense of peace to my life; I’ve made lifelong friends and incredible memories that keep me smiling even when I’m blue! Can’t wait to see where the rest of this journey takes me. Kay was born to do this and her nurturing and encouragement to try new things has made me happier than I thought possible.”

– Anna

“This very mixed-age group choir welcomed me some years ago. Having somehow slid into the older age bracket and lost the ability to do many things, it is wonderful to still be able to sing and in a place where we are all seen as equal.

But Melodic choir is so much more than just a singing group. The singing, the friendship, the care, has seen me through some tough times, including the loss of my husband. And when we all sing together amongst friends, in that moment, none of us have a care in the world.

I am proud to be a Melodic!”
